Rīgas pils |
Rīgas pils celta 1330. gadā. Sākotnēji tā bija 3 stāvu cietokšņveida celtne ar iekšējo pagalmu un 4 torņiem. Pilsētnieki Rīgas pili ir neskaitāmas reizes postījuši un atjaunojuši. 1491. - 1515. gada pils atjaunošanas laikā tika arī uzcelts Svina torni, kāds tas redzams mūsdienās, nopostīto pils ēdamtelpu pārsedza ar zvaigžņu un šūnu velvēm, virs vārtiem izveidoja ordeņa patroneses Sv. Marijas un ordeņa mestra V. Pletenberga skulpturālus ciļņus. Pēc Livonijas ordeņa likvidēšanas 1562. gadā pils pakāpeniski zaudēja atsevišķas nocietinātas vietas nozīmi un tika iekļauta pilsētas aizsardzības sistēmā. 18. gs sākumā aizbēra nocietinājumu grāvi, bet gadsimta beigās izveidoja Pils laukumu.

Lielākās pārbūves notika 18. un 19. gs. 1785. - 1787. gadā uzcēla jauno korpusu - 3 stāvu ēku guberņas iestāžu vajadzībām pēc arhitekta P. J. Boka projekta. 1818. gadā priekšpilī izbūvēja Vidzemes ģelerālgubernatora reprezentācijas telpas, arī Balto zāli 20. gs. trīsdesmitajos gados arhitekta E. Laubes uzbūvēja Triju Zvaigžņu torni, priekšpils iekštelpas pielāgoja Valsts Prezidenta reprezentācijas vajadzībām un izbūvēja Sarkano zāli. 1958. -1962. gadā pēc arhitekta L. Liepas projekta daļēji restaurēts Svina tornis, Baltā un Sarkanā zāle daļa bojāto erkera ciļņu aizstāti ar jauniem.
