Doma baznīca

Doma baznīca ir vienīgā katedrāltipa baznīca un domkapitula klostera komplekss Baltijā. Domam pamatakmens tika likts 1211. gadā, bet celtniecību uzsākta apmēram 1215. gadā. Ap 1300. gadu telpu izbūve bija pabeigta. Celtniecības laikā mainījās baznīcas plāni, stili un materiāli. Iecerēto divu torņu vietā finansiālu iemeslu dēļ nācās samierināties ar vienu. 1595. gadā uzceltais 140 metru augstais baznīcas tornis tolaik bija visaugstākais Rīgā. 1710. gadā Rīgas aplenkuma laikā stipri cieta baznīcas jumts. Atjaunojot nopostīto baznīcu, tika pārbūvēti baznīcas sānjomu jumti, mainot jumtu slīpumus. 1772. gadā pēc Krievijas carienes Katrīnas II aizlieguma veikt apbedījumus baznīcās, no Doma tiek pārvesti apbedījumi, tā rezultātā paaugstinot baznīcas grīdas līmeni. 1775. gadā Rīgas rāte liek nojaukt torņa smaili un uzcelt jaunu - pašreiz redzamo ar barokālo torņa nobeigumu. No 1888. līdz 1914. gadam norisinājās Vēstures un senatnes pētītāju biedrības Rīgas Doma būvnodaļas veiktie remonta un restaurācijas darbi baznīcā un krustejā.

Doma baznīca no Pētera baznīcas

Padomju laikā 1959. - 1962. gadam Doms tika pielāgots koncertzāles vajadzībām. Tika demontēts altāris un ievietoti krēsli ar skatu uz ērģelēm. No 1981. līdz 1984. gadam Nīderlandes ērģeļbūves firma "Flentrop Orgelbouw Zaandam" veica ērģeļu rekonstrukciju. Vienlaicīgi šajā laikā tika veikts interjera remonts, un rekonstruētas visas inženierkomunikācijas. Paralēli tika atjaunots torņa smailes vara apšuvums, abu galeriju margas, izgatavots jauns gailis un restaurēta lode, iekārtota torņa automātiskās ugunsdzēšanas sistēma, uzstādītas iekārtas gaisa kondicionēšanai.
